Bobona beans are a variety that has been cultivated since 1930 in the unique microclimate of Lefkonas, Prespes, North West Greece. Back then, when the villagers had no means of irrigation, the beans were cultivated next to the lake. Today, the crops cover a much wider area of the lakeside plains and are irrigated with the nutrient-rich lake water. Locals called this variety “Bobona” because of the bean’s small round shape. The beauty of the Bobona is its excellent quality, special taste, thin skin and easy-boiling properties - like all Prespes’ varieties. It is perfect for Greece’s traditional national dish, bean soup (“Fasolada”).
